Homosexuality is an extremist idea, according to Saudi Arabia’s Security Agency.
Reuters reports that the claim was made in an official promotional video which was posted on the Twitter account of the state’s Presidency of State Security. The video, which now appears to have been deleted, states that “all forms of extremism and perversion are unacceptable”.
Curiously, the video, which also lists feminism and atheism as extremist ideas, comes at a time when Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, is moving the state away from ultra-conservativism towards a more moderate form of Islam.
It has been hoped that the change in direction will see Saudi Arabia tackling its shocking record on LGBT rights, with homosexuality being illegal and punishable by death.
