Hairspray director and cult icon John Waters makes a headline appearance at this year's SHOUT Festival tonight.


After receiving critical acclaim touring across the globe with his one-man-show, This Filthy World, John will play Birmingham Hippodrome as part of the 10th anniversary edition of SHOUT.

It will be his first ever appearance in Birmingham and his only UK show of 2019.


Described as 'the pope of trash', John has written and directed 16 movies across his 50-year career. He's best known for his seminal counter-cultural comedies which celebrate deviance and alternative lifestyles, including Hairspray, Pink Flamingos and Polyester.

John has also had his photography shown in galleries across the world and is the author of nine books, including his new title, Mr Know-It-All, The Tarnished Wisdom Of A Filth Elder, which will be published in the UK in September.


Combining highlights of his stand-out career with 'delightfully devious anecdotes, comical career observations and hilarious audience interaction', John's SHOUT Festival Hippodrome show promises to be a night of top-quality entertainment.
