More than one in five Scots (21%) would not describe themselves as open-minded and accepting of LGBT lives, new research has revealed.

The data, released by Censuswide Scotland as part of a study into the attitudes and opinions of Scottish people in 2019, also revealed that almost one in 10 (8%) think that other people might describe them as homophobic.

Commenting on the survey data, Jordan Fergusson of Censuswide Scotland told pinksaltire.com: “The opinion poll has been tracking public attitude across a range of important issues in 2019. This particular study looked at how open-minded and accepting of LGBT communities the respondents consider themselves, while also asking them to consider how they may be perceived by others.

“Our results found there to be a number of Scots who do not consider themselves open-minded and accepting of LGBT people. The responses vary across the age groups, with older people being the least likely to consider themselves open-minded.“
