In what will be a UK first, a TV channel dedicated to LGBT+ programmes is being launched on Wednesday (1 April).

Already available in a number of European countries, OUTtv describes itself as a channel that ‘presents movies with an edgy twist, from award-winning titles through to indie features and acclaimed shorts’.

Also featuring in the channel’s schedule are ‘inspiring documentaries and internationally successful TV programmes, including renowned LGBTQ+ series, reality shows and game shows’.

There will also be reports from a range of LGBT+ events, including film festivals and fashion shows.

Included among OUTtv’s line-up of programmes is RuPaul’s Gay For Play, a lighthearted trivia game show featuring two contestants attempting to win cash and prizes with the assistance of a panel of celebrities.

Although its content will be LGBT in nature, OUTtv’s appeal stretches beyond the queer community - according to its website, in other countries 40% of its viewers are straight women.

OUTtv will be available on Sky (channel 330). Alternatively, viewers will be able to subscribe online for £99 per year through the OUTtv website.
