100s turn out to pay respects to Brum gay DJ

Several hundred people gathered at Yardley Crematorium, Birmingham, to pay their final respects to Spencer Cormell. A regular on the scene, Spencer DJed at Birmingham Pride and numerous gay venues, including Missing, The Village Inn, Sidewalk, Glamorous and The Bullring Tavern. Spencer passed away suddenly on the evening of 21st November. 

Commenting today on Facebook Wayne Westwood, friend to Spencer, said "Spencer Cormell you had such a good send off I will miss you dearly 99 red balloons �� fly high spenc xx"

Upon the news of Spencer’s death tributes poured in thick and fast, including from Gareth Scratcherd, former owner of Angel’s Bar (now Sidewalk), who said: “Such sad news but such happy and fond memories and some very blurry moments too.” 

Keith Perks from Equator said: “I am totally shocked. I have been your friend for so long. You never failed to make me laugh. We had fun and now we have tears.’

CJ Turner-Moss, manager of Clone Zone, said: “A massive shock to everyone. Spencer was a regular visitor in store and an all-round lovely guy. He will be missed by everyone.”
