Nightingale receives a gift of history
POSTED: Wed 24 February 2010Birmingham’s Nightingale Club has taken a big step to log its history with a gift of archives covering the last 20 years.
The Gay Village venue is creating an archive of events which have taken place during the club’s 40-plus-year history. Scene activist and club Honorary Member Steve Kirkham has donated a 20-year collection of paperwork from his period of continuous membership and service.
“After a Spring clear-out, I sorted carrier bags galore of club material which seemed a crime to throw out,” says Steve. “As characters have come and gone there are gaps in the history of the Gale that ought to be filled. “I’m delighted that there is now to be a factual archive of al the Gale’s thrills and spills, so that future customers and members can realise how much ongoing expansion of the Gale got underway.”
