Partners of deceased gay clergy to get equal pensions rights
POSTED: Sun 14 February 2010

Civil partners of deceased gay clergy are to receive equal pensions rights, the Church of England General Synod has announced.

The new legislation will bring gay surviving spouses' rights into line with those of their straight counterparts. Gay clergy may enter a civil partnership as long as they promise to remain celibate. Since the Civil Partnerships Act came into law, an estimated 200 gay clergy members have tied the knot.
