Long-established gay venue to close
POSTED: Wed 27 January 2010Birmingham Gay Village venue Route 2 will close on Friday 29 January, according to its owners Mitchells & Butlers.
A spokesperson for Mitchells & Butlers said: "After careful consideration we have taken the decision to close Route 2, as it is unfortunately no longer a viable business for the company to continue to operate.
"We have had expressions of interest from other parties interested in leasing the premises, and we continue to explore these. Currently the last day of trade is scheduled for Friday 29 January."
There are unsubstantiated rumours circulating on the gay scene that a straight couple from Cannock and a national pub company are among the interested parties set to take on the venue.
