Birmingham gay bar venue faces licence review
POSTED: Wed 27 January 2010

A Birmingham Gay Village venue is to have its Premises Licence reviewed by the City Council following police claims of an alleged incident relating to 'crime and disorder'.

West Midlands Police has revealed that the Glamourous Show Bar venue, which is situated on Hurst Street, will have its licence reviewed by city licensing chiefs on the grounds of 'crime and disorder' and 'protection of children from harm'. The police claim that some of the incidents of crime and disorder involved levels of intoxication.

The outcome of the review could result in Birmingham City Council imposing a number of conditions to the venue’s license in an attempt to try and resolve the concerns of the police. In extreme cases, the licensing chiefs have the authority to revoke the premises licence completely, and effectively close the venue. The owners of the venue, Steve and Jennifer Yeubrey, were unavailable for comment.

Meanwhile, a nearby 'greasy spoon' cafe called Mr Egg (opposite Glamourous), which is very popular with visitors to the Gay Village, is also to have its Premises Licence reviewed. The review has been requested by the police following a serious incident which took place at the premises at 2am on Sunday 29 November. The incident resulted in 13 assaults, three of which have been categorised as Section 18 Wounding.
